Birds and fish have been a big part of my subject matter so far, and this piece is no exception. I visualized something light and airy and as is typical, I sculpted a bird and a flower or two and let the piece develop.
I “finished” this piece initially, but something was just not right about it. I had painted the background with a warm sunset in mind, but it was just a pink mess! I took the piece totally apart, repainted the background, added another bird and liked it much better. See both examples below…
Mixed Media (clay, acrylic paint, Manzanita branches) – 14.5″ x 16.5″
- The original background was way too pink – shown here.
- After changing the original pink background and adding another bird
- Close up view with final bluer background
